About the Data

RecallWatchUSA republishes recall notices issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The CPSC makes this information available to the public through its Recalls API and on cpsc.gov. We present each notice as-is — the product, the stated hazard, the number of units, the sale dates and retailers, the incident and injury counts, and the remedy — and add structure so recalls can be browsed by brand, category and year.

What's in scope

Consumer products under CPSC jurisdiction: toys, children's and infant products, household appliances, electronics, furniture, power and hand tools, sporting goods, and similar. The CPSC archive goes back decades.

What's out of scope

Motor vehicles and car seats (regulated by NHTSA), food, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices (regulated by the FDA), and firearms, aircraft and boats (other agencies). Those recalls are not published here.

How current it is

The recall list is refreshed from the CPSC every week (a full re-pull of every year back to 2000), so new recalls appear here within days of the CPSC posting them. Each page shows the official recall date and recall number, and links to the notice on cpsc.gov.

Brand and category

The CPSC feed does not carry a clean brand or category field, so we derive them: the brand from the recall headline (and the firm name when the headline is passive), the category by keyword from the product and hazard text. These help you browse; the authoritative text of every recall is unchanged CPSC wording. Company names are not yet normalized, so a firm may appear under more than one spelling.

Using a recall notice

If you own a recalled product, follow the remedy in the official notice — stop using it, and contact the company for a refund, replacement or repair. When in doubt, the authoritative source is the recall's page on cpsc.gov, linked from every recall on this site.
